Perez Sometimes Posts Worthwhile Quotes...

Like this one:
"Both Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people. … The real difference is that [Harry Potter author] Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and [Twilight author] Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good."

- Stephen King tells USA Today

LOL. It's funny cause it's true.

Yes. Yes it is. I love Stephen King.

The Twilight books sucked me in, but her writing IS shite. I almost didn't finish the last book because of all the whatthefuckery.

I'm depending on you, Marcee, for my important Perez news. I avoid him like the plague, mostly because of all the penises he draws on all the pictures. Hello? How old are you? Twelve?
King can always be counted on to give other writers their due. The 50bookchallenge has been awash with posts on SM books. I read an excerpt at amazon and agree with him.
I'm loathe to admit it, but I read all the Twilight books.

Initially, I just wanted to know what all the fuss was about. Halfway through the first book, I remember thinking to myself, "Why are you still reading this?" When I was done, I still hadn't decided if I liked it or not, but I did want to know how it all ended...so I bought the other 3.

She's an awful writer. She really is. Her writing sounds like something I might have put together in middle school - lots of teenage angst and lust, but no actual talent, creativity or edge and so much redundancy I almost had to scratch my eyes out. But whatever. I read them all. I think I might have actually liked the overall story arc...but yea. I wouldn't actually recommend anyone else torture themselves with any of it.
You're right about the middle school thing. The impression I got was that there's just too much detail and corny descriptions like "his subtly ravaged alabaster skin."

Of course, I keep reading David Gemmell's stand-alone Drenai books where someone is always having their pate cleaved by a broadaxe, and I don't even like broadaxes or cleaved pates. ;)
If I had to hear about how beautiful (specifically beautiful...ALWAYS beautiful - not handsome, not gorgeous, not attractive. ONLY EVER BEAUTIFUL.) Edward was ONE. MORE. TIME.
you know... if you take a laser and burn the word 'beautiful' out of pages you get the key to a sekrit message...
You are one of many people who read the whole series in order to torture themselves. I didn't because I had some sense :D
I didn't because I had some sense :D

that, sweetling, is a relative term.
Hmmm True...

I didnt because relative to joools, I have some sense! :D
i still haven't mailed your prezzie.

and yes, yes that's a threat.

mwahahahahahahahahaha!
Yea I tortured myself too...though sadly I thought well maybe it gets better! But no I continually wanted to rip my eyes out and throttle Bella if she were real. The only characters I could tolerate were the Cullens (not whiny Edward though) and Jacob (when he wasn't being annoying either). But the writing was just so bad that it didn't matter in the end. I just wanted it to stop! lol
Yea when I read that yesterday I was just so relieved....YES people DO see that Meyer is a horrible writer! I'm not crazy!! lol.
